Prepare yourself to serve Christ

On-line Minstry

A community of believers has been defined all the way from a small group within a church, to a local church, and beyond to all Christians.  With the advent of the World Wide Web, this meaning has taken on new dimensions.  We have found the on-line ministries shown on this page to be a few that were most helpful in our personal ministries.

Scripture

If you are to be one "...who correctly handles the word of truth", it begins with bible study and scripture.  Scripture must be primary in our theology and in our faith.  An on-line ministry that leads in spreading the gospel is www.americanbiblesociety.com.

Worship

Why must I worship my God in a church?  The answer may be long and complex, but simply stated: Your church family gives you the resources to know your God and grow in your faith.  It is a community of believers that will also give you God's love and hope when you may need it most.  All of this and more we have found in our church family at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church.  It is a church with "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors"  www.ffgumc.com.

Prayer

We communicate with each other in many different ways ie. facial expressions, presence, thoughts, written words and speech.  Talking with your God is no different.  Our prayers may be ones of thanksgiving, confession, praise, petition, intercession or guidance.  For help in prayer, check out your church library or www.upperroom.com.

Grace

Grace is God's love for the undeserving.  It is the one thing that the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else.  Only grace can bring hope and transformation to a troubled world.  The best book we've read on the subject is What's So Amazing About Grace?, by Philip Yancey.  We urge you to buy it at a local book store or go to www.christianbook.com or any other on-line bookstores.

Mission

The word "mission" in today's secular world has found widespread use in  mission statements for almost all companies and organizations that define their approach to a product or service.  As a result, we Christians are losing ownership of this word.  The understanding that "we are called" and "we are sent" is at the foundation of our faith.  Jesus spent his ministry calling people and sending them on God's mission.  It has been said about the church "that a church in mission is a growing church.  One that is not is dying or dead."  Finding a good website for Missions is difficult, but try UMC's Southeastern Jurisdiction website www.umvim.org.  If you have trouble finding the right mission for you, contact us, we can help.

Teaching

Jesus was called "Rabbi" or teacher.  No wonder we feel unworthy when asked to teach a Sunday school class or lead a bible study group.  In the Letter of Paul to the Romans, the apostle is talking about "...so in Christ we who are many form one body... We have different gifts, ... If a man's gift... is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach." Rom 12:5-7  When someone asks you to lead or teach, be honored, as they see those qualities in you that merit you being asked.  Next pray and seek God's guidance.  Many resources exist to help make a class or bible study vital in the lives of its students.  Check out www.cokesbury.com for some of these resources.

Witness

Jesus told his disciples, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you: and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, ... and to all the ends of the world." Acts 1:8  If we are to make disciples for Christ, to be a disciple ourself, then we too must witness to the Gospel and our faith.  Accountable discipleship calls us to order our lives in all our daily activities to show Christ's love through us to all the world.  We wish to thank ForMinistry.com, an on-line ministry of the American Bible Society, for this opportunity to witness to our faith with the help of www.forministry.com.
