Jan 07, 2007, Aldersgate SS Class Update - We welcome the new year with many changes to the Aldersgate Sunday School Class.  First, thanks are given to Larry Tonkel for his co-leadership in this class.  It is sad to have Pat and Larry move to Loranger, LA to begin Larry's new job as Executive Director of the Soloman Episcopal Conference Center, but still encouraging that the Tonkels will retain a residence in Fairfield Glade.  The study series on "Serious Answers to Hard Questions" was completed.  Ministries supported by class member weekly offerings include Holston United Methodist Childrens Home, Prison Fellowship, and Fundacion Emmanuel Guadalajara.  Today marked the change of our class meeting time to 8:30 am.  This was done to support a new class that would be available to FFG UMC members wishing to attend the new 9:45 Spiritual Encounters (contemporary) Worship Service.  Thanks also given to Rich Dendler who will be co-leading this class.  The themes for the first Quarter will come from the book "The Thirteen Apostles by J. July 10, 2005, UMVIM SEJ Rally 2005 - I had a great time at Lake Junaluska, NC Jun 29 to Jul 2, 2005.  There was a lot of good preaching, hymn singing and workshops on very vital mission projects.  One of the most enjoyable parts of such a gathering is the many interesting and motivating people that you have the opportunity to visit and talk with.  Of course, not all inclusive, but I would single out the following persons and their mission focus.  1) George Baskin, President and Founder of Russian Resources Press, Inc.  www.russianresourcespress.com.  2) Israel Oyaro, Pastor/Founder of New Life Community Center home based in Nairobi, Kenya and Wilmore, KY.  3) Nancy Eubanks, Secretary of Global Ministries Memphis Conf - UMC, very involved in GBGM and mission projects in Estonia and Poland.  4) Fabiola Grandon T. - Projects Office Coordinator for Volunteers, Methodist Church of Chile, www.metodista.cl

May 24, 2005, UMVIM RALLY - In the 21st century the core of the Christian church has moved from North America and Western Europe to Latin America, Africa and Asia.  The church in these areas is much younger and has a great passion for mission and outreach.  Do you wish to partner in this new mission activity to empower the work in the growing areas as well as receive a new generation of missionaries into our own region and share in their passion and vitality for Jesus Christ?  If so you are invited to attend the the UMVIM Rally, June 29 - July 2, 2005 at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina.  I'll see you there.  For more information go to the website www.umvim.org.

April 23, 2005, VOLGOGRAD TRIP -

An evangelistic mission trip to Volgograd, Russia is being planned for September 24 to October 9, 2005.  This mission trip is affiliated with the Campus Crusade for Christ and the Transfiguration United Methodist Church of Volgograd.  Volunteers will be invited to lecture to university students in a class room setting, at one of seven universities in Volgograd.  Many opportunities will also exist to interact in off campus settings, and to witness to your faith in Christ in one on one discussions.  Anyone interested in joining Paul Wennermark in this exciting ministry is encouraged to contact Paul for further details.

The financial and prayer support of family, friends and members of Fairfield Glade UMC is prayerfully requested.  Funds raised for this Russian Methodist ministry will cover trip expenses and a financial gift to the Transfiguration UMC of Volgograd.  Further, we are seeking the donation of a used laptop computer with DVD/CD drive or funds to purchase a new computer that will be left with the church.  A projector has already been donated.  Any checks in support of this mission project are fully tax deductible and should be written to Fairfield Glade UMC. - Paul

Apr 10, 2005, ALDERSGATE CLASS- Today marked the beginning of a new Sunday school class (Aldersgate Class) at Fairfield Glade UMC.  A dedicated core group of Christian disciples presented themselves to learn more about their rich heritage in Wesleyan Theology, the life of John Wesley and American Methodism.  The class format will use elements of the early Methodist Class Meeting.  These elements include prayer, hymn singing, witness to Christ, searching the scriptures and accountable discipleship.  We began by adopting a "General Rule of Discipleship" for class members.  Specifically stated it is... "To witness to Jesus Christ in the world, by following His teachings through, acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit."  We embarked on a six-month regimen of daily spiritural reading under guidance from the text A Wesleyan Spiritual Reader by Rueben P. Job.  Initial ministries we support through our weekly offerings, will be the Holston United Methodist Home For Children and Prison Fellowship.  Anyone wishing to join us is welcome when we meet during the Sunday school hour 9:45 am to 10:45 am in Rm 5 at the FFG-UMC.- Paul

Apr-4-2005, WALK TO EMMAUS - We recently returned from a "Walk to Emmaus" in Livingston, TN.  The men's walk was held from March 10 to March 13, 2005 and the women's walk was held from March 31 to April 3, 2005.  They were wonderful 72-hour experiences of Christian spiritual renewal and formation.  Each walk was three busy days of singing, learning, laughing, praying, worshiping, and small group encounters with a community of believers.  If anyone visiting this website and reading this news item were any part of that event, we give our thanks for your love shared with us.  Anyone seeking more information about what the "Walk to Emmaus" is, go to the website www.upperroom.org/emmaus.
